About Matthew

Performing

I have been acting, singing, and dancing for almost all of my life — in fact, my debut was not on a stage or screen, but in front of a TV, reenacting “Steam Heat” from The Pajama Game as a preschooler. As a child, I used to rope my grandfather into putting on Thanksgiving shows, and mount productions with my cousins on the couch in my grandparents' basement. I never needed fancy lights, a proscenium arch, or a big audience. All I needed was my imagination and a story, and I took flight.

I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University, where I studied Theatre, with a concentration in Musical Theatre Writing and Performance. At Northwestern, I was able to hone my craft thanks to a number of incredible mentors. I also gained valuable experience in a variety of styles of musicals and plays, and I had the unique opportunity to combine my circus experience with my passion for theatre.

I am currently represented by Lily's Talent. â€‹

Writing

I collaborated with Harrison Lewis on the book, music, and lyrics for Waterland, a new one act musical, which premiered as a staged reading at Northwestern University. Working with bookwriter Emily Mayo, I wrote the score for The Song of Achilles, a full-length musical adaptation of the Madeline Miller novel, which debuted as an educational production in Spring of 2023. I have served as writer’s assistant to book writer and lyricist Deborah Zoe Laufer on a reading of By Any Other Name, and I spent two years on the writing board of the Waa-Mu Show.

Bridging my interests in stories of intersecting faiths, mythologies, and Queer identities, I received two research grants from Northwestern University to research and create a musical centering the experiences of young queer Jews in America, Lend Me a Little Light. I was also commissioned along with Adelina Marinello by the Broward Center for the Performing Arts to write INTERP, an original musical for high school audiences, which was produced in January 2025.
